Taipei

16th Sep 2016 - 20th Sep 2016. 4 nights.
25,101km travelled. 10,922km travelled excluding flights.

I had an early flight so I had to get up at 4:30 and catch the subway and then a train to get to the airport. The flight was four hours and then I got a bus and subway to the hostel.

The hostel was pretty central and quite nice.

Taipei 101 was the tallest building in the world from 2004 (overtaking the Patronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur) until 2010 (overtaken by Burj Kalifa in Dubai). It is now at number 8. There is a 660 tonne pendulum up at the observation deck level that acts as a mass damper to prevent swaying undering typhoons and earthquakes (it was built 660ft away from a major fault line). It also has the fastest elevator in the world that can reach 60km/h.
